This is the first of several papers on the theme of the relation between culture, creativity and the emerging economy, the version I normally present as definitive being the [Birkbeck DIME conference paper]. It was written for publication in the Creative Industries Journal, which sadly folded due to the editor’s illness, before the paper could be published. It explores the economic consequences of the creative and service economies in greater detail. The version here is dated June 2012 but, actually, it is the paper originally prepared for the Creative Industries Journal, which I later repurposed without change
