During 2005-2006 a series of seminar/workshops were held in the LSE to discuss the concept of equilibrium in economics, with participation from natural scientists, statisticians, and economists. This was then published as Mosini, V. (ed) (2007) Equilibrium in Economics: Scope and Limits.pp240-260. London: Routledge ISBN 0415391377.
This is a prepublication version of my chapter in the book. It brings together the various elements of my critique of the equilibrium paradigm and is the most comprehensive statement of this critique at the time of publication. It includes an appendix on temporality and endogeneity in the Inductive Sciences added in 2015.
It was subsequently kindly translated into German by the journal EXIT as Freeman, Alan (2006): Die Himmel über uns. Über die Bedeutung des Gleichgewichts für die Wirtschaftswissenschaft, EXIT! Krise und Kritik der Warengesellschaft 3, 212-241
Both versions are included in this post.
