In Business, Creativity, Politics, States and Nations

Between 2009 and 2010, Hasan Bakhshi of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) invited me to collaborate on three ‘provocations’ on the broad topic of the economics of the Arts. We were joined by Radhika Desai, Graham Hitchen, Jason Potts and later Peter Higgs, collaborations that led to the Dynamic Mapping of the UK creative industries and the development of a standard methodology – known as the ‘intensity method’ – for identifying, defining and measuring the creative industries, later adopted by the UK Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). I am reproducing these papers here, with gratitude to the ‘Mission, Money, Models’ site on which they originally appeared.

This post includes a short article which we wrote in support of the paper, which was published in the magazine Art Professionals
