This report, prepared for the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA), was the fruit of a long collaboration between Hasan Bakhshi of NESTA, myself and Peter Higgs of Queensland University of Technology (QUT). In the course of preparing it, we finalised the methodology and calculations behind the ‘intensity’ definition of the creative industries, later adopted by the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
